Project Overview
Xero and QuickBooks Online maintain world-class infrastructure, but Intuit and Xero terms of service explicitly state they do not restore user-level data. If an integration overwrites the chart of accounts, or a user mistakenly deletes invoices, manual CSV exports are insufficient because they drop attachments, lose critical relational links, and cannot be cleanly re-imported.
MetaDesign Solutions built WOW Backup and Restore to bridge this critical gap, engineering a secure SaaS platform that provides automated daily backups and intelligent, relational restoration of financial data.
Secure OAuth 2.0 API Integration
We integrated directly with the Xero and QuickBooks Online APIs using a secure, robust OAuth 2.0 flow. This allows the system to seamlessly pull automated daily backups without requiring users to manually export or manage their data, operating securely in the background.
Encrypted, Region-Aware Cloud Storage
To comply with international data residency requirements across the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, we architected the storage layer using AWS S3 and KMS. All daily backups are safely encrypted at rest and stored in the appropriate regional buckets, ensuring absolute data security and compliance.

Intelligent Relational Restore Engine
The core innovation of the platform is the intelligent restore engine. We built complex dependency mapping algorithms that understand the relational graph of financial data. For example, before restoring an invoice, the engine automatically verifies and restores the required dependencies like Contacts, Tax Rates, and Chart of Accounts, allowing data to be restored into a brand-new organization file with 100% relational integrity.

Results & Outcomes
The WOW Backup and Restore SaaS was successfully launched and subsequently listed on both the official Xero App Store and the QuickBooks App Center. Today, it processes thousands of automated daily backups globally, providing businesses with a validated, one-click restore functionality that reconciles down to the cent.
