Building an analytics solution for a global pharma company (Data Analysis and Interpretation)
Overview
We built an integrated analytics solution merging data from multiple websites, portals and mobile apps to enable better understanding of user needs, content usage patterns and enable better personalization services. HCP portals offering targeted communications of pharma companies to their community of providers, HCPs and patients are a key engagement platform generating a wide range of data and information regarding the interactive events on the multiple frontends and backends of the services.
about the client

Challenges
Understanding the type/s of and the level of engagement is a useful input for improvement, as well as provides insight into content, its users and also uncovers new/un-discovered learning needs.
Creation of custom events.
The content is often spread out and the capture and assessment (measurement/interpretation) of the events is sometimes inconsistent and not unique.
Data duplication.
Visual representation of complex event streams.
To achieve this a comprehensive solution was needed, one which provides the necessary visual representation via dashboards of the data streams, as well as provides valuable interpretation and actionable insights.
Solution Scope and Services
Med-sci education content and pharma research communication in the field is a valuable tool for engaging with HCP users to enable them to remain updated on new therapies, research and developing science.
Considering the needs of the project and the pharma client’s requirement for a robust application built in collaboration with the business, we first undertook a full technical analysis of the existing technology implementations and data systems (Android, iOS, Web-backends) and developed the common application framework to extract the exact data required. This was then stored in a data-warehouse (Google) and then datasets processed further for individual frontends.
MDS created a solution (an application) that was built using Firebase, BigQuery, and Datastudio to present the data on UI dashboards. The solution was deployed on the Cloud.
Using Google Looker Studio
MetaDesign Solutions utilized Google Looker Studio to build intuitive and interactive dashboards that visualize complex data streams. This tool enabled the Client to easily access and interpret data, offering clear insights into user engagement and content performance. The user-friendly interface of Looker Studio allowed for seamless integration with other Google services, providing a powerful visualization platform that met the Client’s needs for comprehensive reporting.
Unifying Data from Multiple Data Sources
One of the significant challenges was unifying data from various sources, including Android and iOS apps, web backends, and different storage technologies. MetaDesign Solutions developed a common application framework that facilitated the extraction and consolidation of data into a Google data warehouse. This process involved overcoming technical complexities related to data compatibility and synchronization, ensuring that all relevant data was accurately captured and made available for analysis.
Generating Meaningful Insights
Generating meaningful insights from the unified data was crucial for the Client’s content strategy. MetaDesign Solutions’ analytics solution enabled the extraction of actionable insights, helping the Client understand user behavior, engagement levels, and content preferences. These insights not only informed content personalization but also provided sponsors with clear evidence of their content’s impact, thereby enhancing sponsor satisfaction and ROI.
Results
Business value of analytics in determining and helping in interpreting the data related to macro and micro topics in a specialized field was possible. Especially on the aspects of content experience, ease of access/delivery, and analysis of learning benefits gained.
